Noooo Sleep

Man, I forgot how much work young puppies are, the family is losing lots of sleep from our 6 1/2 week old black lab, he is whimpering a ton at night and my kids are getting up several times thru the night to let him out, We did the hot water bottle thing, and left a TV on for him to make him sleep, now I'm going to stop on my way home to get a wind up clock to see if that helps, I don't remember my other pups being this whiney....Heaven help us 

BTW - I told the wife I will sleep on the couch tonight so they can sleep

Is he in a crate? He will get better in a couple days. I had a pup that would cry at night and I would lay in front of the crate after I put her in with my fingers through the door petting her. Once she crashed out, I would sneak back to my bed and sleep for a bit until it was time to get up for the pee break.

Yeah he is, I think we will need to exercise harder right before bed, as it is now he's good for about 10-15 min of play then he's worn out, I keep telling my wife that it will get better shortly, the little stinker better not make a liar our of me

At  6 1/2 weeks old, maybe he still needs his mommy? I don't know a lot about puppies, but that seems awful young to be weaned.

in a crate. they whine, get up and take them outside tell them to empty out or potty and put back into the crate. this is crate training. it pays off big time after two/three weeks of misery and no sleep but, thats the price of puppy training. This is the time when pup needs to learn to sleep alone. They miss their littermaters and they have tiny bladders.

I have never had one come home that young which may have something to do with it  None the less my new girl came home on the 20th at a little over 7 weeks and has been doing well at night.  I had to get up a few times the first couple of nights to let her pee.  Be sure to limit water/food intake several hours prior to bedtime and wear her out!!!! I do have her in a create and did exactly what vandeman17 said and it really helped.  She is not in love with the create but tolerates it.  I try to put her in when she is already half asleep.  It has been 14 years since I last did it but I do know it gets easier.  Potty training and constantly having to watch her have me pretty worn out too...but just think how great it will be to have our pups in the field with us this time next year  Hang in there...I think new puppy parents should have some type of support group on this site...we shall survive.

Yeah, I would have preferred 8-10 wks but had to make sure I had a pup avail to me. The crate is definately the way to go, he had adapted pretty good, so far, he like the crate and goes right to sleep when in there, its just the tiny puppy bladder that wakes him up at night, he is real good about going potty outside as long as we take him out there, he has gone a few times in the house when we didn't get him out in time. I feel your pain brother, maybe we can start a new "Puppies Anon" Group    What breed of pup do you have?

I go at a new Chocolate Female...I put my last one down in Nov. after 13+ years...It was easier to raise a pup when I was a single young man with no kids

Yea as others said, the pup is pretty young to be weaned and away from the litter... ya might have quite a few sleepless nights ahead of you  good luck.

Let him out before bed, twice a night and right when you wake up, other than that don't pay attention to the whining and whimpering.  But I'm a pretty heave sleeper so maybe some ear plugs

when we first got he dog we have now was a noisy one about 6-7 weeks was an unplanned litter parents too young . but  we had same problem howl on and off thru night, but one day while i was sitting him he was whinny big time i gave him like 30 ignore  never did it again and i know sounds bad but worked

Yeah, I'm a pretty good sleeper too, Notice I said the kids got up all night 

Stopping by the goodwill on the way home to see if I can find a cheap wind up clock to put in there, hopefully that will help. If not maybe I'll find some puppy depends for night time
